Back-End Developer
This role is London based, with 2 days a week in our Central London office, and 3 remote. We are looking for a backend/PHP developer to join our small, agile team in bringing exciting websites and applications to life while supporting the fantastic work that our team has already produced.
On the average day, you may:
Perform a mix of new development, enhancements, and maintenance development using PHP 8.x, Laravel and JS.
Integrate with, or build out 3rd party APIs
Collaborate with teammates, solving problems or implementing new processes and practices
Join meetings with clients to understand requirements and add technical knowledge
Document features, technical specifications & infrastructure
Required skills/experience:
PHP: 2-3+ years, with PHP8.x experience
Laravel: 1-2 years+, with v9/10/11 experience
Filament/Nova: 6+ months experience
MySQL: 2-3+ years experience
JavaScript: 1+ years experience
Git/Github
Bonus skills:
Linux/*nix command line/configuration
Build tools, such as Webpack/Vite
Server management/configuration, such as: nginx/Apache/crontab
Amazon Web Services (inc Lambda/Cloudwatch/RDS/EC2)
Laravel 1st party software (like Vapor/Forge/Cashier)
MacOS experience (we supply and use Macbook Pro's to develop on)
Vue/React/React Native experience
Basic HTML/CSS skills
Shopify API experience
A creative eye/mind

Some of the nitty-gritty bits:
This is a split remote/office role, with 2 days a week (Wednesdays/Fridays) in our central London office
This is a mid-weight role and therefore we expect you can work mostly independently with support from our senior backend developer and technical director.
Your code should be easily picked up and maintained by anyone on the team.
You need to be able to give realistic estimations of time to complete work and communicate openly throughout a project.
You'll need to have the right to work in the UK. Sorry, we can't supply a visa.
In terms of knowledge and understanding, we expect you to have:
Excellent understanding of PHP and MVC frameworks.
Good understanding of using and developing API’s.
Good understanding of MySQL.
Knowledge of version control systems, specifically Git.
Nice to have: knowledge/experience of continuous integration.
Knowledge of software testing using frameworks such as PHPUnit/Dusk.
Awareness of web markup, including HTML, CSS and JS.
Basic understanding of CSS pre-processing, such as LESS/SASS.
Good understanding of vanilla JavaScript, and common libraries and frameworks, such as Vue.js, React,, etc.
Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image. Familiarity with Photoshop/Sketch/Figma is a plus.
Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that site will adhere to them.
Salary range:
£36,000 - £49,000 p/a, depending on experience.
